What do our kids eat at the school?

By Azys Syaiful Anwar

Since it provides calories, vitamins, nutrients and others important substances, Food is considered as the essential need of human. It helps people to get some energy to do their activities. However, not all kind of food is good for human. Some of them may consist of dangerous additional substances, such as preservative, dye, and many more. It doesn’t matter when the additional substance used is really made for food only. Unfortunately, some of food producers do not pay attention to their consumers’ health. They prefer using cheap non-food additional substances which may not fulfill the health requirement to reach more benefit.
Just for moments ago, there are many issues of unsafe food which is exists in the community, in this case is in Indonesia. The use of borax, clothes dye and others chemical substances are massively done by some food sellers. As a result, there are many dangerous food distributed in the public. They are not only packaged but also fast food product, such as ‘bakso’, ‘mie ayam’, and many more. In addition, some sellers also specify their target consumer to school students. In this way, the sellers will achieve more profit, but our kids will be endangered.
So, what kind of foods which are usually sold in some school in Indonesia? They may snack, fast food, and some drinks. However, is it really safe? Is it passed BPOM (Standard Food and Medicine Determiner of Indonesia) filter. This is the main question which may emerge in our mind.
Non-Safe food criteria:
  1. Expired food
  2. Food with many additional substances, such as borax, preservation formula, etc.
  3. Unregistered food
Since there are many dangerous food sold in school, parents should wisely give their children understanding about how to choose better food to consume. Besides, parents can give delicious healthy food to be brought by their children to school. This is aimed to reduce their kids’ expenses in food. I think it will be better rather than giving them more pocket money.
